Sakli Vadi means Hidden Valley in English. This sums the whole essence of the Kaya Valley. Sakli Vadi is a complex of three renovated farm cottages in an idyllic spot in the tiny farming village of Kinali, at the western end of the Kaya valley. The cottages offer exclusive escapes for discerning customers in search of tranquillity, peace and quiet during their holidays.
Sandy and Jon Carter the owners fell in love with the area and bought the cottages, which were then complete ruins and started the restoration project in 1993. The labour of love took then six years and earned them a plaque from the Ministry Of Culture and Tourism for sympathetic restoration of the buildings.
The cottages are situated at the highest point of the village, with stunning views all around this breathtaking valley.
The cottages are named after the jobs they were originally used for on the farm ; The Byre, The Granary and The Forge. Part of the property above the Byre is home to the shared plunge pool, which has been dug out of the rock and so remains cool all summer long. Above the pool is a wooden Turkish kosk or Ottoman seating area, an ideal place to relax and admire uninterrupted views across the valley.
Sandy and Jon first visited Fethiye in 1992 on a diving holiday with their children. On a day off from diving they drove up to the valley and were smitten. They have worked together in the middle east for 25 years in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and presently they live in Bahrain. They intend to move full time to this beautiful part of the Turkish Turquoise Coast as soon as they can !
We do hope you will visit Sakli Vadi and have a restful and relaxing holiday.
Sakli Vadi Hosgeldiniz ! Welcome to Sakli Vadi !

The Granary is the most compact of the three cottages.
The cottage nestles in it’s own garden behind high walls for absolute privacy. At the western end is a rock garden with a myriad of flowering plants and shrubs.
The patio is on two levels. On the higher level there is plenty of room to lie out and sunbathe. Then, step down under the pergola into a private terrace where chairs and tables are provided for those quiet, leisurely meals or peaceful sundowners. On this lower terrace, under the shaded pergola, is a traditional Turkish fireplace with bench seats. The fireplace is fitted with a barbeque and is the ideal place to wile away those long summer evenings after a quiet dinner.
The accommodation consists of an entrance hall into the fully fitted kitchen. Off the kitchen is the shower room. Also leading off the kitchen are double doors into the combined lounge and double bedroom. One of the period features of this cottage is the corner hearth. These large fireplaces were used to generate both warmth and to cook on in years gone by.
A twenty yard stroll from the secluded garden brings you to the plunge pool and kosk area above the Byre.

Remarks
Sakli Vadi cottages are located in the picturesque Kaya Valley, on a peninsular between the towns of Fethiye and Oludeniz. The peninsular is on the Mediterranean Sea coast of Turkey. The cottages are just over an hour’s drive from our local airport at Dalaman.
The Kaya Valley is situated east of the town of Fethiye on Turkey’s Turquoise Coastline and about 900 feet above sea level. The area in ancient times was part of the Kingdom of Lycia.
From Fethiye you follow the winding road up the cliffs which is signposted for Karmylassos or Levissi. These are the original Greek and Lycian names for the valley. The journey by car of dolmus (the local village buses) takes about 20 minutes. You crest the cliffs and begin to descend into the valley through some beautiful pine forests. As you exit the trees, there are several parking areas on the roadside that you can look down over the whole of the valley.
There are three villages in the valley. Keciler in the east, Kinali in the west, where the Sakli Vadi cottages are located and the central village of Kaya Koy. The valley has very fertile soil and up until the advent of tourism, tobacco was the cash crop. Many of the farmers continue to tend their fields but the crops now are a mixture of arable feed for their animals, black figs, almonds and vegetables. Many of the fields are so small that they still have to be ploughed using horses, which is a wonderful sight. The valley has many traditional tea houses, restaurants and bars that cater for all tastes.
Towering above the valley is the 3,000 metre high mountain called Baba Dag. From the top of the mountain hang gliders and parascenders can be seen launching every day. The air currents are so good for this exciting sport that the World Championships are held here almost every year.
As you drive through the valley, you experience real Turkey. The villagers can be seen tending their animals and fields as they have done over the generations. The typical stone houses are interspersed with more modern designs. However, the valley has been designated an area of natural beauty by the Government and so has been spared the worst of modern building developments.
Passing through Kinali Koy at the far western edge of the valley, the road winds down to the coast at Gemiler Bay. This delightful pebble beach is safe for swimming and there are a number of restaurants on the beach which sell local delicacies and drinks.
The Kaya Valley encompasses all of what is best of Mediterranean Turkey. The old blends beautifully with the new. The valley is a paradise of calm and tranquillity, with wonderful walks and breathtaking flowers and forests. A truly magical and relaxing experience.
The cottage rental rates are based on two persons sharing. If you want to stay for less than a full week, then that's no problem at all. We charge Gbp. 70.00 a day in the high season and Gbp. 50.00 at all other times of the year.
